The 4 stroke engine is with no doubt the icing in the cake of motorsport. The design and manufacturing of this machine is something very interesting which requires a deep understanding of some important engineering and manufacturing concepts.

This engine is an experiment with the aim of getting knowledge in mechanics, and specially about fine manufacturing. Also, some CAD skills had to be developed in order to design it. The software I used was Solid Works, which I learnt by myself only for this project.

The project started with the definition of the displacement of the engine. In fact, the most important thing was to find the right dimensions for bore and stroke that one day I might use in a RC car. I chosed 7.5cc, because it is also used in some 4 stroke engines. With that displacement and using a standard 16 mm stroke, you get a good cylinder bore. From that point, I fitted the inlet and outlet valves inside the compresion chamber and calculated many other parameters for the engine to work.
Some parts were machined in house, while others had to be made outside for obvious reasons.

The manufacturing process is a very complex step, specially with small parts that need fine tolerances. One really crashes into lots of problems but this gives you the knowledge. Most of the parts were machined by me and this gives even more value to the project.
